We’ve named the first pourewa ‘Ahi Kā’ (people of the land keeping the fires burning) because the deeper purpose of Parangarehu lies in reconnecting the next generation with their whenua (land) by working on it through either conservation, tourism, and hospitality so, it’s not just a business it's a...

Awesome stay, highly recommended

We were lucky enough to get to stay at Parangarehu Ahi Kā during Matariki, which was a really special experience. It was a gorgeous place to hold our hautapu, but let's face it, it would be gorgeous at any time of year! Actually it rained quite a lot in the long weekend we were there and it couldn't have mattered less - with that view it's a stunning place to watch a storm roll in. The accommodation was warm and cosy, and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, and we were surprised by the quality of the cooking facilities. During breaks in the weather we managed to get out on the e-bikes, which was super-fun. There are so many amazing tracks, and the first thing we did when we got home was to book again so we can experience Ahi Kā in summer too and keep exploring. It was lovely to meet Lee and Malesha and to whakawhiti kōrero on our final morning, and they gave us the opportunity to plant a native tree kia mānawatia ai a Matariki. Ngā mihi nui ki a kōrua! Hei ākuanei!
